Stunning antique clutch purse, circa 1920s. Constructed of very fine quality, glossy leather that has been richly tooled & hand-painted in an ornate paisley-style design. Attached hand strap on the back for carrying clutch-style. Closes with a fabulous thick marbled bakelite clasp. Interior is lined in beige silk faille. There are two attached pockets in the interior: one is a change-purse style with kisslock clasp, and is lined half in the faille, and the other half in rich cream kidskin--never seen a coin purse like this! The other pocket is a ruched faille slip pocket that holds a small mirror, the back of which is covered in the same tooled leather as the exterior. The quality on this piece is truly excellent and was likely a costly item when new.
The purse measures approximately 7.5" wide and 5.75" tall, and is about 3/4" thick. It is in very good condition for its age. The leather is still supple and glossy, and the clasp closes securely. There is light wear to the leather at the purse's corners. The lining is quite clean but does have a few small marks, and there are a couple of small pink marks to the kidskin area. The hand mirror's silver backing is a bit pitted/clouded with age (I actually love it when old mirrors do this) but still functional; also the leather trim around one edge has come a bit loose.
